NPA MD Accused of Squandering N22 Billion in Five Months

An investigative revelation by Nigerian journalist Jackson Ude has brought to light claims that the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, allegedly squandered a staggering N22 billion within five months. This amount was taken from the N63.7 billion allocated for the NPA’s administrative expenses in the 2024 budget, LeadNaija News Report.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Jackson Ude outlined that Dr. Dantsoho, who was appointed in July 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, managed to deplete this substantial sum from the NPA’s administrative budget shortly after his appointment.

Ude further revealed that the NPA MD, within his brief tenure, allegedly misappropriated N1,323,778,196 from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, which were part of the N5 billion allocated for the CSR budget in 2024. Interestingly, these funds were then reportedly reallocated in the 2025 budget.

The post by Ude details further troubling revelations about the management of training budgets at the NPA. For local training in 2024, a sum of N3,544,229,665 was allocated.

However, it was claimed that Dr. Dantsoho had spent N1,004,645,096 before the end of 2024, with a new proposal to spend N4.4 billion in the 2025 fiscal year.

Similarly, the overseas training budget, which amounted to N3,140,369,860 for 2024, was reportedly fully spent without evidence of any training programs undertaken. This has led to suspicions of mismanagement as the 2025 budget proposed an additional N3.3 billion for overseas training.

These accusations come as a significant blow to the image of the NPA leadership and raise questions about the transparency and accountability within the organization, as well as the handling of public funds under Dr. Dantsoho’s watch.

The NPA and Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho have not yet issued an official response to the claims. However, as the revelations continue to generate public outcry, calls for an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds are growing louder.

The Nigerian public, particularly stakeholders in the maritime sector, await further clarifications as the story unfolds.
