The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of train operations on the Port Harcourt–Aba corridor, effective Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
In a statement issued late Monday by Dr. Onyedikachi S. Onovo, District Public Relations Officer of the Eastern District, the Corporation disclosed that Locomotive 2223 had successfully passed testing and was declared fit for service.
As part of measures to cushion the effect of the earlier disruption, NRC said passengers who had previously purchased tickets for the suspended service would be allowed to travel free of charge, while new passengers will enjoy a 50 percent discount on fares.
“The Corporation regrets the inconvenience caused to commuters and wishes to reassure the public of its commitment to safe, reliable, and customer-friendly rail services nationwide,” the statement added.
The resumption of the Port Harcourt–Aba service is expected to bring relief to passengers and boost economic activities along the busy corridor.
