LeadNaija News reports that Obasanjo, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi and made available to journalists on Wednesday, congratulated the monarch on his formal ascension to the throne.

Obasanjo emphasised that the new position requires humility, tolerance, and other qualities.

He also urged the monarch to be patient, tolerant, and seek divine wisdom and advice from a wide and varied range of quarters to succeed.

The Statement reads, “I take this opportunity to congratulate you, Ade a pe lori, bata a pe lese.

“It is an exalted and responsible position to be traditional ruler of all Ibadan people. It requires humility, patience, divine wisdom, tolerance and advice from wide and varied quarters to succeed.

“Traditional rulership does not compete or conflict with political rulership.

“I wish you all the best and the grace, guide and direction of Almighty God.”

Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ladoja will be crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025.

In other news, political activist and civil society leader, Usman Bugaje, has faulted former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s denial of seeking a third term in office, insisting that the ex-leader “did everything within his power” to extend his stay.

Obasanjo, speaking at a democracy dialogue organised by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation in Ghana last week, dismissed the long-standing controversy.

“I’m not a fool. If I wanted a third term, I know how to go about it. And there is no Nigerian dead or alive that would say I called him and told him I wanted a third term,” Obasanjo had said.

But appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Bugaje, who served in the National Assembly during Obasanjo’s administration, maintained that legislators at the time had first-hand knowledge of the former president’s ambition.
