Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the 20-kilometre Akute-Ijoko Road in Ifo Local Government Area, assuring residents that the long-abandoned project will soon be delivered.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday while inspecting ongoing work on the first phase of the 9.7-kilometre section of the road, shortly after commissioning the newly completed Akute-Ajuwon-Alagbole Road, also in Ifo Local Government.

Abiodun explained that the Akute-Ijoko project is being executed in phases under a carefully designed implementation plan, stressing that his administration has a clear blueprint for transforming the corridor.

“This road is almost 20 kilometres, a dual carriageway that amounts to 40 kilometres with full drainages. By God’s grace, we will complete this road,” he said.

He recalled that the route had suffered years of neglect, lamenting that previous attempts to fix it were poorly coordinated and ultimately worsened the situation.

“What you see here was an abandoned road. In fact, it would have been better left untouched. A previous administration attempted some work here, but it made things far worse. Government cannot function without coordination. You must have a plan and set priorities,” the governor noted.

The Governor emphasised that the project’s implementation strategy reflects the aspirations of residents, adding that public consultation remains central to his administration’s governance approach.

Abiodun said seeing the excitement of the people during his inspection was a reassuring sign that the project was on course.

“This is a critical connector road between Ogun West and Ogun Central, linking Sango-Ota, which borders Lagos, to Ifo II through Ifo I,” he said.

The governor revealed that the project has been segmented into two phases, with the first phase stretching slightly beyond the Agbado Station axis toward the Sango-Lanbe-Ijoko Road corridor.
