Oil Theft Now Run By International Syndicates — NNPCL

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bashir Ojulari, has raised the alarm that crude oil theft in Africa has gone beyond local operators, with international cartels now driving the illicit trade.

Ojulari, who spoke yesterday in Abuja at the opening of the Africa Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference, said oil theft has evolved into a sophisticated global racket exploiting the continent’s weak security systems.

According to him, crude oil theft is no longer “a backyard operation” but “an organised crime run by international syndicates.”
