The Ondo State Government has banned graduation ceremonies for nursery pupils and Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 students, warning private schools to comply with the state’s directives or face sanctions.
LeadNaija learnt that the announcement was made by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, during a stakeholders’ meeting with proprietors and proprietresses across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas.
According to a statement by the Press Officer of the Ministry, Bisi Lawami, Ajibefun said the government is determined to restore Ondo’s education sector to its former glory.
He urged private schools to strictly follow ministry directives, use approved textbooks, adhere to the official curriculum, and observe the school calendar.
“Schools operating illegally will have six months to regularise or face closure,” he warned.
The commissioner also condemned underage admissions, unapproved foreign curricula, and the use of advanced learning materials unsuitable for pupils’ ages.
He stressed that excursions, compulsory extra lessons, and graduation ceremonies for non-exit students would no longer be tolerated.
The government also approved the reuse of textbooks to reduce parents’ financial burden
