Operation Enduring Peace Troops Repel Attack On Illegal Mining Site In Riyom, Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have repelled an attack on an illegal mining site in Rim Village, resulting in one miner killed and another injured.

Security sources said that at about 9:00 p.m. on March 24, unidentified gunmen attacked the site, reportedly intending to seize extracted tin from miners. Troops of Sector 6 OPEP responded promptly, forcing the assailants to flee into the bush.

During the operation, the body of the deceased miner, identified as Hanya Alamba, was recovered, while another victim, Mr. Gyang, sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated to General Hospital, Riyom for medical attention.

The troops established dominance in the area and intensified patrols to prevent further attacks, the sources added.
