Police confirmed that two suspects, aged 17 and 18, were also found dead from self-inflicted gun shot wounds following the attack at the mosque and school located in San Diego’s Clairemont neighborhood, about eight miles north of downtown.
Among those k+lled was a security guard whom officials credited with helping to prevent an even greater tragedy during the d+adly incident. Authorities said the guard’s actions played a critical role in limiting the loss of life as chaos erupted inside the Islamic Center.
The shooting sparked panic in the area as heavily armed police officers and emergency responders surrounded the mosque shortly after reports of g¥nf+re emerged.
An imam from the Islamic Center later confirmed that all teachers, students, and school staff members present at the facility during the attack were safely evacuated and accounted for.
Investigators have yet to release details regarding the motive behind the shooting, while authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and the suspects’ movements before the incident.
