According to eyewitnesses, “the assailants flagged down Innocent, who was riding his motorcycle. Upon realizing their intention to rob him, he grew suspicious and attempted to resist.
During the confrontation, the gunmen pulled out firearms and shot him, taking his motorcycle and fleeing the scene. Despite immediate efforts by concerned residents to rush him to a nearby clinic, Innocent was declared dead upon arrival.
The incident has caused deep shock and concern in Ahoada, which has experienced a recent uptick in violent crimes, particularly involving motorcyclists, who are often targeted for their vehicles. Local residents and Okada riders in the area have expressed growing fears for their safety, with many calling for increased police patrols and stronger security measures to curb the rising crime wave.
One eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, described the attack as swift and brutal. “It all happened so fast. The man was just trying to protect his bike, but they shot him without hesitation. We are scared. It could have been anyone of us,” the eyewitness said.
Following the attack, the Ahoada Police Division was notified, and police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.
She explained that the victim was shot while attempting to struggle with the attackers.
“The police are actively investigating the crime and working to apprehend the suspects,” Iringe-Koko said. Authorities have vowed to increase patrols in the area and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
