The PDP New Narrative leadership has refuted claims by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s National Secretary, that the PDP National Working Committee, or NWC, is improperly constituted and thus unable to conduct valid party affairs.
In a letter from Senator Anyanwu, he alleged the NWC’s decisions, including the recent dissolutions of Cross River and Akwa Ibom State Committees, are invalid.
However, the PDP New Narrative said these assertions are both misleading and self-incriminating, as Senator Anyanwu is himself a member of the same NWC.
The statement, signed by Comrade Justina Dashi, Director of Education & Enlightenment for PDP New Narrative, underscores the party’s commitment to internal democracy, due process, and discipline under the PDP Constitution.
They emphasize that the PDP Constitution, as amended in 2017, explicitly authorizes the actions taken by the NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Key constitutional provisions cited include Section 31(2)(e), which empowers the NEC to dissolve State Executive Committees and appoint caretakers, and Section 29(2)(b), which allows the NWC to act on behalf of the NEC in emergencies, with subsequent ratification.
The legitimacy of the September 30, 2025 NWC meeting is also confirmed under Sections 29(3) and 35(1), which grant the National Chairman authority to summon and preside over meetings, regardless of who issued the meeting notice.
The PDP leadership accused Senator Anyanwu of acting out of personal ambition connected to his Imo State governorship pursuit, undermining party unity by sending conflicting letters to INEC opposing the National Chairman’s position.
They described his claims as reckless, self-serving, and damaging to the party’s constitutional order.
