The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), through its South West Zonal Mining Marshals, has intercepted several trucks along the Oyo–Ibadan route suspected of transporting illegally mined lithium.
CSC Babawale Zaid Afolab, National Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, in a statement on Saturday said operatives intercepted the trucks while on routine patrol and surveillance.
Checks revealed that some of the vehicles were operating without valid licenses or permits, while others presented questionable documents in an attempt to disguise their operations.
The Corps assures Nigerians that the seized consignments have been secured, and thorough investigations are ongoing to ensure all those behind the illegal activities are brought to justice.
“Illegal mining not only robs the country of needed revenue but also damages the environment and fuels insecurity in our communities.
“NSCDC remains steadfast in the fight against this menace and calls on members of the public to support ongoing operations by providing credible information. Together, we can safeguard our environment, our economy, and the future of our people,” the statement added.
