The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion and fire outbreak at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025.
According to a statement signed by Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the incident occurred within one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.
The localized blast triggered a limited fire, which was swiftly contained by troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, working alongside the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service.
The Army assured that no lives were lost and no injuries were reported. Structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is ongoing to determine the extent of material loss.
Residents of Ilese and surrounding communities have been urged to remain calm, as the Army—working with relevant agencies—has launched a full investigation into the cause of the incident to prevent a recurrence.
The statement reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding both its personnel and neighboring communities.
