A fatal road accident at Karu Bridge, near the Karu Water Board in Abuja, has left one person dead and several others injured following a multiple-vehicle collision involving a Dangote cement truck and three other vehicles.
The crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025, and was reported to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zebra Unit Karu.
Details of the Karu Bridge Accident
According to eyewitnesses and sources close to the scene, the accident involved the following vehicles:
- A Dangote truck loaded with cement (driver currently on the run)
- A Hi-Jet mini truck (unregistered)
- A Mercedes-Benz CLS350, registration number RBC 76 MN, driven by Ibrahim Mohammed Aliyu of Karu
- A Ford H (2017 model), registration number ABC 04 GB, driven by Ademola Odumaki of Lungi Barracks
- A Toyota Corolla, registration number RSH 957 AW, driven by Victor Nwanneka of Karu Extension
The only fatality reported so far was the motor boy of the Dangote truck, whose identity has not yet been confirmed. He was rushed to Customs Hospital, Karu, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Injuries and Ongoing Treatment
Several vehicle occupants suffered varying degrees of injuries and are currently being treated at nearby hospitals. The exact number of injured persons has not been confirmed as of press time.
Emergency responders, including officials from the FRSC and medical personnel, were deployed promptly to the accident scene to manage traffic, provide first aid, and evacuate victims.
Driver on the Run, Investigation Underway
The driver of the Dangote truck reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities say a manhunt is currently underway, and investigations have begun to determine the cause of the accident.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has urged motorists to maintain safe speeds and remain alert, especially along accident-prone corridors like Karu Bridge.
