In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Special Anti-Robbery Squad which was disbanded on October 11, 2020, remains dissolved.
“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent information regarding SARS reformation and rules of engagement should be treated with caution. Nigerians are encouraged to verify the source of any information before accepting it as true,” he said.
This was as he urged the public to seek accurate information about the activities of the police from its official social media handles.
MyNigeria recalls that SARS was disbanded following a nationwide protest against police brutality that gained world attention.
The protest was dubbed EndSARS because it aimed to end the activities of SARS which protesters claimed carried out extra-judicial killings and extortion.
However, the protest turned bloody after it was hijacked by hoodlums and insurrectionists who burnt police stations, looted stores and killed innocent people. Read Full Details
