Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command raided a criminal hideout suspected to be a shrine and arrested five suspects linked to a recent home invasion, armed robbery, and rape at a guest house in Abak.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
According to the PPRO, the arrests followed a discreet investigation prompted by a formal complaint received on June 26, 2025, detailing the attack where armed individuals robbed a man and raped his female guest.
Following a directive from Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives raided a hideout on July 30, 2025, at 11:10 PM, arresting Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny, and Joseph Joseph.
The raid uncovered a suspected shrine containing two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, photographs, and other fetish items.
The PPRO stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend remaining gang members.
She added that the command remains committed to ensuring justice and public safety.
“Acting on a firm directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives of the Command initiated an investigation. On July 30, 2025, at approximately 11:10 PM, detectives raided the criminals’ hideout.”
“Operatives recovered disturbing items from what appeared to be a shrine, including two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items,” the statement partly read.
