The future of Marcus Rashford has long been discussed.
Since Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Manchester United manager in November, this talk has only intensified.
The problems for Rashford at the club were there before Amorim’s arrival.
He was dropped previously by former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023 after hosting a birthday party just hours following a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Despite this, he was still picked for games.
However, Amorim was quick to drop Rashford.
This is despite scoring in his first game in charge against Ipswich Town.
He spoke of his reasons for dropping Rashford from the squad.
“Training, performance, game performance, engagement with the team-mates, pushing the team-mates up”, even “the way you dress, the way you eat … we have to put the standards really high.”
Rashford was loaned out to Aston Villa in February, but failed to set the world alight, with mixed fortunes.
In his first three Premier League games, he recorded three assists.
He did not record another assist in the league and only mustered up two goals.
In the FA Cup, he did score a double against Preston but these were the only other goals he scored.
His time with the Midlands club ended with four goals and six assists in 17 games.
This is a solid return but a lot of Villa fans would have expected more.
This has left many to wonder where he will play his football in the 2025/26 season.
Former Manchester United defender discusses Marcus Rashford future
Timothy Fosu-Mensah played 30 games for the club from 2015 to 2021.
He had loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham before a move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021.
Fosu-Mensah has been without a club since 2024, missing out on the entire of Leverkusen’s historic season due to injury.
He gave his opinion on his former teammmates’ future.
Speaking to the Independent, he said: “I just want him to be happy. Everybody just wants him to be happy.
“The most important things is for him to feel good, for him to feel happy.
“Look, the quality is definitely there. Nobody needs to say anything about this quality, because he’s a top player.”
