President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the granting of state clemency to a total of 30 individuals, including notable figures such as environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, literary icon Herbert Macaulay, and late military officer Major General Mamman Jiya Vatsa.
The decision, announced on Tuesday, follows the recommendations of the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, which reviewed numerous applications for pardon and commutation of sentences.
Under the new directive, 15 individuals received presidential pardons, 4 death row inmates had their sentences commuted to life imprisonment, while 11 others were granted clemency for various offences.
