Protest Day 1: Protesters Reject Abandon New Anthem ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’ sing ‘Arise O Compatriots’

#EndBadGovernance protesters in Port Harcourt on Thursday recited the now-defunct ‘Arise O compatriots’ national anthem, ditching the reintroduced ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.

The federal government had reintroduced the latter anthem a few months ago.

During the #EndBadGovernance protests in Port Harcourt, an amateur video captured the demonstrators standing in solidarity. They sang the ‘Arise O Compatriots’, demanding better governance from President Bola Tinubu.

Mr Tinubu officially reinstated the original national anthem, ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee’, on May 29, 2024.

On Thursday, Nigerians across the country took to the streets to express their anger as hunger worsened amid prohibitive food prices.
