ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE), insisting the policy will not be scrapped despite criticism from partners in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Speaking at the close of the ANC’s 11th Limpopo elective conference, Ramaphosa said calls to end B-BBEE and affirmative action were unrealistic. “We will not abandon the B-BBEE policies… we want our people to have opportunities to advance their lives,” he told delegates.
The address came as Dr Phophi Ramathuba was confirmed unopposed as provincial chairperson.
Ramaphosa also highlighted priorities including economic reindustrialisation, improving local government, and boosting rural development.
The ANC’s firm stance is likely to strain relations within the GNU, particularly with the Democratic Alliance, which has called for a review of B-BBEE.
