Sharing her experience in a social media post, Raye explained that she was searching for accommodation when she met a landlord who questioned her about her state of origin.

According to her, when she replied that she was from Cross River State, the landlord quickly asked if she was Igbo. She said she answered no, stressing that she was from Cross River, but the landlord told her they would get back to her. Unfortunately, she never heard from them again.

Her words: “When I was looking for a house to rent, a landlord asked me where I was from. I said Cross River. He asked if I was Igbo. I said no, Cross River. They said they’ll get back to me but never gave me the house. Let us all shun tribalism please, it’s disgusting.”

Raye went further to compare the situation to the discrimination Nigerians already face outside the country. She recalled that in South Africa, many Nigerians have suffered xenophobic attacks, while in some Western countries, they are subjected to racism.

She lamented that instead of finding safety and acceptance at home, Nigerians now face another challenge in the form of tribalism.
