A torrential downpour on Friday has wrecked havoc in Potiskum, Yobe State. The flood washed away several houses across different parts of the town.

The rainfall, which began late Thursday night and continued into early Friday morning, left many residents displaced after their homes were either damaged or completely collapsed.

The worst-hit areas were neighbourhoods close to the waterways where the impacts were severe as most structures collapsed.

These include Arikime, Ramin Kasa, Tandari, Nahuta, Boriya, Rugar Fulani, and Unguwar Kuwait.

Other affected communities include Old Prison, Filin Nashe, Unguwar Makafi/Majema, Unguwar Jaji Bakin Kwari, Afghanistan, Tsangaya Bakin Kwari, Karofi, Bayan Garejin Danjuma, and areas behind Fudiyya Potiskum.

Residents in these areas are frequently affected by flooding due to the absence of proper drainage systems. As a result, rainwater has no outlet causing widespread damages.

As of the time of this report, information were sketchy and confirmed fatalities. However, dozens of homes have been destroyed.
In one of the affected areas where a building collapsed on a woman, she miraculously survived.

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has deployed officials to provide relief to the affected victims.
