A political analyst, BKO, has faulted the ongoing impeachment move by the Rivers State House of Assembly against Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, describing the process as lacking a clear constitutional basis.
BKO said the lawmakers have failed to identify any specific offence committed by the deputy governor that could justify her removal from office, raising concerns that the action is driven by political motives rather than genuine accountability.
According to him, many observers believe the impeachment bid is part of a broader strategy aimed at forcing both Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy out of office, thereby paving the way for the Speaker of the House to assume the position of acting governor.
“The Assembly wants to impeach Fubara’s deputy even when they cannot clearly point out any wrongdoing.
That is why people see this as a calculated move to remove the governor and deputy so the Speaker can take over,” he said.
The impeachment process has continued to generate controversy across Rivers State, with stakeholders calling for transparency, due process and strict adherence to constitutional provisions in resolving the political crisis.
