Rivers State Government Debunks Fake Social Media Announcements

The Rivers State Government has raised alarm over a wave of fake announcements circulating on social media platforms, warning the public to ignore the fabricated statements attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

In a strong rebuttal issued by the government, it condemned the false claims as “malicious fabrications” aimed at misleading the public, creating unnecessary panic, and destabilizing the peace in the state.

One particularly misleading post, widely circulated online, falsely claimed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, who was recently suspended, and his Deputy, Professor Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, were summoned to a meeting at the Government House scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025.

The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is FAKE and did not originate from any official source,” the statement emphasized. “The public is urged to disregard this and any similar misinformation, as they are the work of troublemakers seeking to destabilize the state.”

Sir Dede Sampson Friday, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, signed the press release and urged the public to rely solely on verified sources for accurate government information.

All official communications from the Rivers State Government are disseminated through verified channels,” Sir Friday said. These include the official state website (riversstate.gov.ng), authorized social media handles such as the Rivers State Government Facebook page, and accredited traditional media outlets.

The government further advised members of the public to always verify information before sharing it online. “Please disregard unverified sources,” Sir Friday urged.
