According to reports by Guardian Newspaper on 1st of January, 2025, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has presented the staff of office to several newly recognized traditional rulers, including prominent activist and community leader, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo. The ceremony, held in Port Harcourt, was part of the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and promoting peace and unity across the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Fubara underscored the critical role of traditional leaders in fostering societal stability, cultural preservation, and grassroots development. He described the presentation of the staff of office as both a symbolic and functional endorsement of the monarchs’ authority within their respective communities.
“The recognition of our traditional rulers is a reflection of our respect for the rich cultural heritage of Rivers State,” Fubara said. “These leaders are custodians of tradition, and their roles are pivotal in ensuring harmony and progress at the community level.”
Alhaji Asari Dokubo, who was officially recognized as the head of the Kalabari Kingdom, expressed gratitude to the state government for the honor. He pledged to use his position to promote peace, unity, and development within his domain and beyond.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s dedication to supporting traditional institutions as vital partners in governance. He noted that the state government would continue to provide the necessary resources and recognition to ensure traditional rulers effectively fulfill their roles.
The ceremony was attended by key government officials, community leaders, and residents who expressed hope that the newly installed monarchs would contribute positively to the development of their communities.
