World War III is imminent if Ukraine attacks any country under the guise of the Russian armed forces, the Foreign Ministry stated on Friday.
The spokeswoman Maria Zakharova gave the warning on her Telegram channel following the reports about Kiev’s alleged plans to stage a false flag operation.
Publications in Hungarian media outlets accuse President Volodymyr Zelensky of scheming to target locations in Romania and Poland and then put the blame on Russia.
Zakharova said Zelensky’s office was preparing its own version of the ‘Gleiwitz incident’, with the sole aim of instigating a war between Russia and NATO.
“If all this is confirmed, then we must admit: never in modern times has Europe been so close to the outbreak of World War III,” the official wrote.
Meanwhile, the Russian government has denounced the advocacy by Western countries for the downing of Russian military jets that violate any airspace.
In an interview with VGTRK, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov labeled the calls as “reckless, irresponsible, and certainly dangerous in their consequences.”
