Police in Tom Burke have launched a culpable homicide investigation following the death of local artist Molimisi “Dr Nel” Baatsi, 31, who was found dead on a village road in the early hours of Sunday, 2 November 2025.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers were alerted to a body lying on Phetogo Drive in Ga-Seleka at about 04h00. On arrival, they found the Tshwara Fase hitmaker lying face down. Paramedics from Witpoort Emergency Services declared him dead at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that Baatsi had performed hours earlier at the grand opening of a local pub. His last Facebook Live video, posted shortly before his death, showed him entertaining fans at the event.
Police have not yet established the full circumstances surrounding the incident. A post-mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Detective Sergeant Lesiba Tsebe.
The case has deeply shaken the local entertainment community, as Baatsi was considered one of the rising voices of the Lekompo music scene.
