Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is appealing to members of the public for assistance in locating 17-year-old Menzi Mawonga from Cottonlands in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), who disappeared after being chased by individuals who allegedly fired shots at him.

According to reports, in the week leading up to the Easter school holidays, Mawonga returned home from school with a cellphone that did not belong to him. When questioned, he reportedly told his mother that a friend had stolen the device and given it to him for safekeeping.

On Friday, 03 April 2026, a group of males arrived at the family home demanding the cellphone. The device was handed over by Mawonga’s mother.
