A senior SAPS general has been served with a notice of intention to suspend as investigations into the controversial R360 million Medicare24 health services tender continue.

Lieutenant General Lineo Nkhuoa, the Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Support Services, is among four senior police officials facing possible suspension over their alleged roles in the procurement process.

Nkhuoa signed the service-level agreement for the contract awarded to Medicare24, a company linked to alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The tender, awarded in 2024 to provide health and wellness services to SAPS members, has become a focal point of investigations by the Madlanga Commission and law enforcement authorities after it was flagged as irregular and later cancelled.

Twelve senior officers have already been arrested in connection with the matter, while SAPS has admitted that basic criminal background checks were not conducted on Matlala before the contract was awarded.

Nkhuoa is expected to submit representations in an effort to avoid suspension pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.
