Two men were arrested in Akasia by Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers after allegedly reconnecting electricity to a property whose services had previously been disconnected for non‑payment.
According to Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya, the homeowner had not paid for municipal electricity since 2024 and owed more than R240 000 to the City of Tshwane at the time of the operation. +View more details
The suspects were apprehended by metro police while tampering with the electrical infrastructure at the property.
They have been charged with tampering with electrical infrastructure, an offence that falls under unlawful interference with municipal services.
The arrest forms part of the City’s broader #TshwaneYaTima credit‑control and enforcement campaign, under which the city has been actively disconnecting electricity from properties with significant arrears and cracking down on illegal reconnections.

City officials say illegal reconnections not only deprive the metro of revenue but also pose serious safety risks to residents and strain the broader power network.
Previous operations across Tshwane have included disconnections at commercial and ..Read more details>> residential premises with outstanding debts as part of the drive to enforce payment compliance and protect infrastructure.
The suspects are expected to appear in court as proceedings continue.
