Two women were shot and killed in Mitchell’s Plain on the Cape Flats in Cape Town on Thursday afternoon, while a 12-year-old boy was wounded in what police believe was a domestic dispute.
The shooting happened around 3pm on Westpoort Drive in the Portland area, where officers found the two women, aged 26 and 30, with multiple gunshot wounds. One of the women died at the scene, and the other later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed that a 32-year-old suspect, believed to be a relative of the victims, was arrested at the scene.
He is expected to appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder and attempted murder. The young boy, who was caught in the gunfire, is recovering in hospital.
