SECURITY: Troops Arrested Notorious Gunrunners, Recover Arms In Kaduna

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), in collaboration with Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have arrested two notorious gunrunners and recovered 1,207 rounds of ammunition in Kaduna State.

The operation, conducted on Oct. 8 at a snap checkpoint on the outskirts of Saminaka in Lere Local Government Area, followed actionable intelligence provided by an agency in Plateau State.

The suspects, identified as Abdullahi Balarabe, 40, and his wife, Shafaatu Abdullahi, 18, were intercepted while transporting the ammunition believed to be destined for armed groups operating in the North West region.

According to military sources, the recovered items included 1,207 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition concealed in their vehicle.

The suspects and the seized ammunition are in custody for further investigation and efforts to trace other members of the gunrunning network.

Maj.-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism.

He described the operation as a demonstration of effective inter-agency collaboration and the Nigerian Army’s determination to disrupt criminal logistics networks in the region.

“OPEP remains resolute in its commitment to restoring lasting peace and security. We will not relent in our efforts to eradicate the activities of terrorists and criminal elements to ensure a secure environment where peace and prosperity can thrive,” Oyinlola said.
