Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that the upper chamber of the National Assembly will conduct an extensive and closed-door screening session with the newly appointed service chiefs to address the country’s security challenges.
Akpabio stated this while emphasizing the Senate’s determination to demand accountability and clarity from the nation’s top security officers.
“In the US Congress, sometimes they take two days to interview and screen a nominee,” Akpabio said. “So for these ones, we are prepared to take until Sunday to get answers to our security situation.”
He assured Nigerians that the lawmakers would engage the service chiefs thoroughly to ensure that the nation’s security architecture is strengthened and that urgent solutions are provided to ongoing threats across the country.
The closed-door session, according to Senate sources, is expected to cover key areas such as counterterrorism, intelligence coordination, and the welfare of security personnel.
