Several people have been reported dead following a Friday, June 13, attack on Yelewata community in Benue State.
It was gathered that the armed herdsmen attacked the community at about 10 pm killing several residents.
Also, residents said that at least 16 others were injured during the attack by the suspected herdsmen.
While the number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed, security forces have also launched an investigation into the attack.
Security personnel from the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) responded to the distress call but were said to have been ambushed in Daudu while en route.
Two soldiers and one NSCDC official were killed in the ambush.
A source within the community said, “These brave men paid the ultimate price in service to our people. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
