Sokoto Governor Vows to End Banditry, Unveils Fresh Security Measures

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has declared that banditry will soon become a thing of the past in the state, as his administration rolls out new strategies to intensify the fight against the lingering security threat.

The governor made this known on Wednesday while declaring open the 17th regular meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC), which also marked the final council session for the year.

Governor Aliyu disclosed that the state government has introduced fresh initiatives aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering and improving coordination with security agencies, noting that these efforts are designed to complement existing measures already yielding positive results.

According to him, intelligence remains a critical weapon in the war against criminal elements terrorising communities across the state, adding that the new approach would enhance the capacity of security operatives to act swiftly and decisively.

“As a government, we are ready to do all it takes to ensure that banditry becomes history in Sokoto State, but we cannot do it alone,” the governor said.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community collaboration is essential to defeating banditry and restoring lasting peace.

Banditry has for years affected several rural communities in Sokoto State, resulting in killings, kidnappings, livestock rustling and disruption of socio-economic activities.+See more details

Governor Aliyu expressed confidence that with improved intelligence sharing and sustained public cooperation, the state would record significant breakthroughs in its security operations.
