An off‑duty South African Police Service (SAPS) officer was shot and killed in Cottonlands this evening (Saturday).
At approximately 21h47, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a resident who reported hearing a gunshot. Upon investigating, the caller found a man lying in the roadway.
Reaction Officers arrived and discovered a 38‑year‑old male with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. He was declared deceased at the scene.
The victim’s brother‑in‑law confirmed that the deceased was a serving SAPS official stationed at Ndwedwe Police Station.
The officer was reportedly visiting family in Cottonlands at the time of the incident and resided in Ndwedwe.
Police found the victim’s red Toyota Tazz at the scene. All personal belongings were still in his possession, and no items were reported missing, leading authorities to say that the motive for the shooting is currently unknown.+See full details
