Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has once again recounted the painful loss of his younger brother, Felix Olajide Sowore, who was murdered four years ago in Edo State.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore described Felix as a bright light in their family whose life was “snuffed out” in what he believes was a proxy retaliation by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration during his (Sowore’s) political persecution.

Felix, a second-year Pharmacy student at Igbinedion University, was shot dead in September 2021 near Benin City. According to Sowore, the police initially claimed “Fulani herdsmen” were responsible and paraded suspects, but the case has since gone cold. Promises by then-Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to investigate, he said, yielded “nothing but hot air.”
Sowore recalled how Felix, fondly called “Daddy” in childhood, lived a daring and vibrant life—venturing into music, business, and eventually returning to school in his late 40s to pursue a degree in Pharmacy. “He was determined to live life on his own terms, unafraid to chart his own course,” Sowore said.
Despite the grief, the activist insists his brother’s death was not random. “I remain convinced that Felix was assassinated by forces tied to the Buhari regime. His killing was deliberate,” he wrote, adding that justice has remained elusive but he believes the truth will one day be revealed.
Felix left behind a wife and four children. His memory, Sowore noted, continues to inspire his family and friends, even as the quest for justice endures.
