Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has called on world football governing body FIFA to act swiftly on the case involving South Africa’s use of an allegedly ineligible player during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Chelle, speaking after Nigeria’s latest training session, emphasized the importance of clarity and fairness in the qualification race.
“FIFA must make a quick decision on this issue. Every team needs certainty in order to plan, and the integrity of the competition depends on transparency,” the coach said.
Reports indicate that South Africa could face a three-point deduction if found guilty, a development that could reshape the qualification standings in Africa’s Group stage.
Nigeria currently sit in a tight contest for a place at the 2026 Mundial, with the possibility of a FIFA ruling against South Africa significantly affecting the group’s outlook.
