The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, has clarified that tax obligations apply to all income earners in Nigeria, regardless of whether the activity is legal or illegal.
Speaking on the country’s tax framework, Oyedele noted:
“If you’re doing runs girl, it means you’re rendering a service. Therefore, you’re liable to pay tax. Tax law doesn’t care if it’s legal or illegal.”
He explained that the law focuses strictly on income earned and services rendered, stressing that taxation is not a moral judgment but a financial obligation to the state.
