A disagreement has reportedly arisen between a tenant and her landlord in Port Harcourt over the removal of a mirror installed inside the apartment.
The issue came to light after a woman shared her younger sister’s experience on social media, explaining that the tenant had moved into a new apartment and removed a mirror mounted by the landlord within her personal living space.
According to the account, the landlord insisted that the mirror must remain in the apartment, warning that failure to comply would result in a refund of the tenant’s rent.
The tenant has reportedly opted to accept the refund and plans to vacate the property, while also demanding reimbursement for additional expenses incurred after moving in.
The situation has sparked reactions online, with many questioning the landlord’s insistence on keeping the mirror in the tenant’s private space, while others pointed to the importance of clearly defined tenancy agreements.
Legal experts note that disputes of this nature often depend on the terms outlined in the tenancy contract, particularly regarding fixtures, alterations and the rights of tenants within rented properties.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about landlord-tenant relations and the need for clearer housing regulations and enforcement in Nigeria’s rental market.
