Residents of Shagari Village, near Muslim Unity Secondary Academy in Akure, Ondo State, were thrown into tension on Thursday, August 14, following the theft of a vehicle parked in front of Merit Bakery.
According to an eyewitness, the car was spotted around 6:00 a.m. and was initially assumed to belong to a known customer at the bakery. However, by 8:00 a.m., the vehicle had mysteriously disappeared.
The owner of the car, who narrated his ordeal in an interview with The Hope, explained that he had parked the vehicle in the area the previous morning after dropping off his sick wife at his mother’s residence. He added that his wife’s condition had worsened, prompting him to spend the night there, only to return the next morning to discover the car was gone.
“I couldn’t believe it when I got there and didn’t find my car. I had left it just where I parked the day before,” he lamented.
The victim confirmed that the matter had been reported to both the police and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for investigation and possible recovery.
Meanwhile, community members have linked the incident to inadequate security and poor road infrastructure in the area. One resident explained that the owner had no choice but to park the car about a 10-minute walk away from the residence due to impassable roads, making it an easy target for criminals.
The theft has since sparked renewed calls from residents for improved security patrols and urgent rehabilitation of access roads in Shagari Village to help curb criminal activities.
