More than 1,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the Zuru Emirate have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kebbi State.

The defectors were received on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi by the state APC chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru.

Kana-Zuru attributed the development to what he described as the state government’s performance, stating that projects in the emirate had influenced the decision of many supporters.

He highlighted the construction of the Koko–Dabai–Zuru road and other infrastructure across the state, and assured the new members that they would be treated equally within the party.

One of the defectors, Alhaji Lawali Riba, a former PDP House of Assembly candidate, said the move followed recent events in the state, including the coordinated rescue of abducted students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

Another defector, Arzika Riba, criticised some government aides for what he described as slow performance, urging them to improve their roles.

Two female defectors from Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Binta Bena and Hajiya Maryam, said the opposition PDP had lost ground in the area.
