Accusations of ethnic favoritism have also resurfaced, with many pointing to a now-viral video where el-Rufai, during his tenure as Kaduna State Governor, allegedly stated that his government would prioritize appointments for Muslims and indigenes of Northern Kaduna.
This revelation has prompted critics to question el-Rufai’s roots and political legitimacy in Kaduna. “Without Buhari’s political backing, would you have emerged as governor?” one commentator asked pointedly.
