"The Latest JAMB Results Highlight The Consequences Of Decades Of Underinvestment In Education" Peter Obi Reacts To Poor Performance In 2025 JAMB Exams, Reels Out Solutions

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party has lamented over the recent results released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Obi, in a post on X, said the examination figure shared by JAMB reflects the deep-rooted challenges in Nigeria’s educational system.

Recall that JAMB had said out of a total of 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the examination only about 420,000 candidates scored above 200.

According to the examination body, over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200.

However, reacting to this data by JAMB, Obi said, “This means that over 78% of the total candidates failed to meet the 200-mark threshold.

“The latest JAMB results once again highlight the consequences of decades of underinvestment in education, a sector that should be central to our national development strategy,” the former governor said.

Comparing Nigeria’s tertiary education system with that of Bangladesh and Turkey, Obi said the nation must come to the realization that education is not just a social service but an investment.

“It is the most critical driver of national development and the most powerful tool for lifting people out of poverty.

“We must now invest aggressively in education — at all levels — if we are serious about building a prosperous, secure, and equitable Nigeria,” he said.
