Thousands Left Homeless As Flood Takes Over Maiduguri Community (VIDEO)

Thousands of residents have fled their homes in Maiduguri, Borno State, following a devastating flood that has submerged several parts of the city, especially in Jere Local Government Area.

The flood, which began over a week ago, reached its peak in the early hours of Tuesday, displacing residents in Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin, among other areas.

Key locations, including the State-owned Broadcasting Station BRTV, the Post Office, and the customs area along Shehu Laminu Way, were severely affected.

Reports indicate that the collapse of the Alao Dam early Tuesday intensified the flooding.

Victims described the rapid rise of floodwaters, with some residents barely able to gather personal belongings before their homes were submerged. Watch Video From Instagram

Authorities have warned the public to avoid areas like the Post Office, Monday Market, and routes behind the zoo, which are now impassable.

The Borno State government has also ordered the closure of schools, with concerns that the situation may worsen in the coming days.

As many residents flee to safety, others have been seen carrying light belongings on their heads, seeking refuge in safer places.

The flooding has also submerged the Lagos Street Bridge, one of Maiduguri’s largest, further complicating the evacuation efforts.
