Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has been named by TIME magazine as one of the world’s 100 most influential figures in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for 2025.
Dr. Tijani appears on the prestigious list alongside global tech leaders such as Elon Musk and Sam Altman, recognized for their groundbreaking contributions to advancing AI and shaping its global impact.
In a statement released by his media office, the recognition was described as a reflection of Nigeria’s growing leadership in responsible and inclusive AI development.
The statement highlighted Tijani’s role in spearheading the National AI Strategy (NAIS), which brought together over 120 Nigerian experts worldwide to co-create a framework for the responsible use of AI.
His initiatives have also showcased AI applications in healthcare, agriculture, education, and financial inclusion, with support from global partners including Google and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Speaking on the recognition, Dr. Tijani said:
“This honor further validates our belief that Nigeria can stand as a global leader in the responsible and inclusive deployment of AI for increased productivity. My commitment remains clear: to ensure AI not only drives innovation but also contributes to building a $1 trillion economy, as envisioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
TIME noted that its list was compiled after reviewing key developments in AI over the past year and consulting industry leaders and experts to identify leaders, innovators, shapers, and thinkers shaping the future of AI.
