President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the country’s security agencies following the successful rescue of 38 abducted worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State, and the recovery of 51 students earlier kidnapped from a Catholic school in Niger State.
The President, who cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to oversee security operations at home, said he has been receiving round-the-clock updates from field commanders and service chiefs on the ongoing efforts to curb kidnappings and restore calm across affected communities.
In a statement on Sunday, the President reaffirmed his commitment to the safety of every Nigerian, stressing that his administration will not relent until all citizens are secure in their homes, schools and places of worship.
“I cancelled my trip to ensure proper coordination of our security response. Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku have been rescued. I am equally glad that 51 of the missing Niger schoolchildren have been recovered,” the President said.
He assured citizens that operations are still ongoing to track and rescue remaining victims across the country, adding that tackling insecurity remains a top priority of his administration.
“Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” he said.
President Tinubu currently serves as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
