President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-powered delegation to the United Kingdom to discuss the case of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu. The delegation, which includes the Foreign Affairs and Justice Ministers, signals a significant diplomatic effort by the Nigerian government concerning the politician, who is serving a nine-year prison sentence for organ trafficking.
President Tinubu sent a delegation to the UK to discuss Ike Ekweremadu’s case.The team includes Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi.
They were received at the Nigerian High Commission in London by Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu.Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months for an organ-trafficking plot.
He was convicted of conspiring to bring a young man from Lagos to donate a kidney to his daughter.His wife, Beatrice, was released from a UK prison in January 2025 and has returned to Nigeria.
The “middleman” doctor in the case, Obinna Obeta, was sentenced to ten years in prison.
This diplomatic mission underscores the complex intersection of law, international relations, and the fate of a prominent political figure entangled in a severe criminal case.
