President Tinubu visited the Beijing Research Centre of Huawei Technologies, where the company unveiled the DigiTruck—a mobile ICT classroom designed to improve digital literacy in underprivileged communities across Nigeria.
In the meeting between the President and the leadership team of Huawei, headed by Mr. Liang Hua, the Chairman of the Board, the company announced that their initiative is set to function across 10 states each year, with a goal of training no fewer than 3,000 students annually.
In alignment with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s objective to train 3 million technical talents (3MTT) and prepare the nation’s youth with essential skills for current and upcoming economic prospects, Huawei’s leadership emphasized that the DigiTruck initiative will enhance this program.
Mr. Hua commended the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for recognizing digital technology as an essential catalyst for economic development.
In his remarks, Mr. Chris Lu, the Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Nigeria, voiced his endorsement for Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). This initiative aims to establish Nigeria as a key center for talent outsourcing within Africa.
He said, “This is very encouraging for us. Huawei is fully prepared to offer its ICT expertise and become a reliable partner of the Nigerian government to support the country in achieving its policy objectives and furthering its digital, intelligent, and low-carbon development.”
“In the future, we hope to continuously develop the NOC and expand its capacity so that it can meet the requirements of more African markets, thus facilitating more Nigerian technology talents in serving more overseas’ markets and helping to achieve the goal of NATEP,” Mr. Lu said
