LeadNaija News understands that the assailants injured students and carted away several mobile phones.
According to The PUNCH, witnesses revealed that the armed men also attempted to abduct some students but were forced to retreat when the victims raised an alarm.
“It was around midnight when the attackers came. They caused chaos, injured some students, and took away many phones belonging to the students,” a witness told journalists.
Another eyewitness, Tukur Danlami, said neighbours from nearby communities rushed in after hearing the loud screams of the students, forcing the bandits to flee.
Two students of the polytechnic also shared their experiences.
Manniru Magaji said: “We heard loud noises and commotion and saw people running away with phones in their hands. We were very scared.”
Yunusa Yaro added: “They entered our dormitory with weapons, attacked us, and stole several phones without warning. Thankfully, we escaped unharmed.”
Police Confirm Attack
The Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa State, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday.
He explained that the attack occurred at an off-campus male hostel rented by students, located in an isolated area near the institution.
“From our records, two students were seriously injured during the attack. They were promptly taken to Hadejia General Hospital for treatment. As I am speaking to you this evening (Friday), they have been discharged by the medical doctor,” Adam disclosed.
The police spokesperson assured that investigations were ongoing and that security had been reinforced around the polytechnic to prevent future attacks.
Meanwhile, a youth leader in the area, Garba Ibrahim, condemned the incident, describing it as a major threat to students’ safety.
“The people here are terrified. Such attacks disrupt peace and threaten the safety of our youth. We call on the government and security agencies to take urgent and concrete steps to protect the students and residents alike,” he said.
He further urged increased patrols around the institution, pledging the community’s support for security agencies.
