Arsenal secured the signing of Viktor Gyökeres earlier this summer
After a long summer full of transfer rumours, Gyökeres is the man Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta chose as the man he hopes will guide Arsenal to that step up in their quest for their first league title since 2004.
Gyökeres made a name for himself during a spell with Portugese side Sporting Lisbon.
During two seasons in Portugal, Gyökeres scored 97 goals in 102 games across all competitions.
This included a strike in a win against Manchester City in last season’s Champions League campaign.
He will be a welcome addition to an Arsenal side desperate for a proper striker.
They have tried Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz up front but aside from a few moments here and there, they have failed to take Arsenal to league title glory.
He signed for an official fee of €63 million with a potential of a further €10 million in add-ons.
This stands as Arsenal’s fifth most expensive transfer of all time, behind Declan Rice, Nicolas Pèpè, Havertz and fellow summer signing Martín Zubimendi.
Arteta will hope that this could be Arsenal’s most important signing of the five.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reveals what convinced him to sign Viktor Gyökeres
Speaking with Men in Blazers, Arteta spoke on how he was convinced to bring Gyökores to the red half of North London.
“My first phone call with Gyökeres. I wanted to just look at his reaction. He said: Arsenal, that’s my dream.
“I feel his security, dominance, arrogance to say on the pitch: don’t worry, I will do it.”
